Venezuelans have elected Nicolás Maduro, Hugo Chávez's handpicked successor, as president over the opposition state governor Henrique Capriles.
The death of Mr Chávez on March 5 triggered one of the shortest presidential campaigns in Latin American history. The election presented Venezuelans with a choice between a continuation of his self-styled socialist revolution and the Brazil-style social democracy espoused by Mr Capriles.
