Two years ago George Osborne, chancellor, wished that a "march of the makers" would help to lift the UK economy. But as the stagnation continues, there is little sign of an industrial revival. Professor John Van Reenen, director of the Centre for Economic Performance at the LSE, explains to FT leader writer Ferdinando Giugliano how industrial policy can help to get the economy going again.
